Loving Someone in PsychosisThe Brief: In March 2009 the charity Loving Someone in Psychosis (LSIP) commissioned Shot to make a film that would highlight the work of the charity. The Shoot: Filmed at a fundraising event that LSIP organised to coincide with the launch of a new book (Psychosis in the Family) by LSIP's founder, Janet Love, interviews were conducted on the fly in a noisy venue with poor lighting. Even though filming conditions weren't optimal, we were able to capture the excitement and buzz of the occasion during the second half of the film to create an inspiring video that is sensitive to the issues at hand. The Delivery: As well as authoring a DVD, the film was delivered as an H.264, MPEG 4 file for optimal streaming on web platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo.

Northumbria PoliceThe Brief: Part of BBC1's Crimewatch Roadshow that broadcast live every day during June, 2009, this short film was made to introduce viewers to the region of Northumbria and the work of Northumbria Police. The Shoot: Filmed at various locations across Northumbria, this film uses a professional television broadcaster to present pieces-to-camera. It was filmed using a Sony Z1 camera in standard definition but using stunning backdrops such as Newcastles Millennium Bridge, as well as aerial photography, we can create a high production value. The Delivery: The film fuses archive material, aerial photography, interviews, and presenter-led pieces-to-camera to deliver an introduction to Northumbria Police that entices viewers to keep watching. Edited in a day, this is another example of a very fast turnaround project delivered to broadcast standards.

The Castration CureThe Brief: As the Home Office announces plans to offer drug treatments to child sex offenders to try to stop them re-offending, this sensitive film examines the legal castration of child sex offenders in the USA, in a bid to rehabilitate them. The Shoot: Filmed in several US, maximum-security hospitals and prisons for the most dangerous offenders, the film talks to five men who believe castration, whether chemical or surgical, is the only solution to their deviant behaviour. This was a complex film that required the negotiation of complicated legal issues regarding the interviewing of offenders as well as arranging filming access to county courts, jails and maximum-security hospitals. The Delivery: Broadcast on Channel 4 Television, The Castration Cure provides an example of how documentary making can raise difficult and controversial issues and inspire debate.
